I always have thought that nothing can surpass the power of a good book. No film or computer animations can substitute the almost infinite limits of human imagination. However, Jackson's The Two Towers, somehow proves this theory wrong. There are several things I really liked of this film that definitely went beyond the reach of my imagination, almost 20 years ago when I read the book. The photography and the landscapes are breathtaking. All the details such as the pseudo celtic jewellery, costumes, architecture (specially Rohan) , helmets, banners etc. Are very beautiful and contribute immensely to the magical ambiance of the film. Some scenes remind me those pre-raphaelite pictures of XIX century Victorian England (e.g. scenes between Aragorn and Arwen) Special effects are good but not the core of the film. What really impressed me was the computer animated character of Golum (sp?) What differentiates this character from other computer animated characters is its ''great acting''. This is a very interesting achievement: a non real character with very real and complex juxtaposed feelings perfectly expressed in a ugly but also likeable face. There is also something theatrical and shakesperean in some of the dialogues and scenes. This film is dark, darker than the first one, and definitely is not fitted for children. The spectral swamp and the doors of Mordor reflect this sort of black expressionism. The final battle scenes are perhaps the best I have ever seen in a film. A final personal comment: LYV TYLER is spectacular!!! Her strange beauty is really mesmerizing. Highly recommended film!!!
