When I first watched the Matrix in 1999 I thought that nothing could top the visual effects, or that any science fiction film could better it at all. But as the Matrix triology comes to a close, we are left completely breathless at the sheer perfection of the visual effects. No matter how good the Lord of the Rings is this year it will not be good enough to defeat Revolutions for the Best Visual Effects Oscar. Every movement, every punch and kick is flawless. The final showdown scene where Neo enters the Matrix to finally stop Smith from destroying both the machine and human worlds is arguably the greatest fight sequence of all time. At the start of the film however, we leap right back into the story where Reloaded left off. We become involved in a part of the plot where Neo is stuck in the train station, and this is the only part of the whole movie that is bad. Up till the scene where Neo talks with the Oracle the movie was terrible, it was slow, did not make a lot of sense and just seemed like a waste of time. Why that was I am not sure, maybe the Wachowskis were nervous about starting to shoot their last Matrix film, or maybe some one was sick, who knows? The point is as soon as Neo gets to the Oracle the movie picks up speed and gets back to the caliber it was in the first film. The plot is fantasticly imaginative and evolves quickly, but still slow enough for us to comprehend, finally building to an incredible climax and finishing in brilliant dramatic fashion. Of course who can forget the Dock Wall scene, where the sentinels break into Zion and began attacking the scene. That is where the visual effects is really hilighted. The whole seems is directed so brilliantly by the Wachowski brothers and John Gaeta (visual effects supervisor) does a tremendous job to bring all the elements together to bring more than an action scene, but a work of art. It all flows into complete realism to form a unique battle sequence. Congratulations to Larry and Any Wachowski for creating our generation's Star Wars, from now on people will compare all visual effects, all action scenes, all kung fu, and all science fiction films to the Matrix. And I am sure that nothing will compare. I can only hope that the two brothers will write another script to continue this saga. In closing the only bad parts of the film are the first 10-15 minutes and Keanu Reeves' acting (which excells in its dreadfulness even more than I thought possible) With the exception of the beginning The Matrix Revolutions is just as good as it's saga starting counterpart The Matrix.
