A spectacular war feature from the younger David Lean, who seems to never have made a bad film as director. Sir Ralph Richardson in one of his few LEADING ROLES shows his mettle as the great actor he was throughout his life. The wonderful Ann Todd, who North Americans never got to know fully is superb as is the young Denholm Elliot. Though from way back in 1952, the film provides thrills I certainly never expected.
