    The Thing

This was a well done prequel to John Carpenter's '82 version of "The Thing", and it was just exactly what I had expected. I didn't, however, find this film as scary as I first anticipated, but there was a great deal of suspense and tension throughout to keep me well satisfied. It has a good solid story, with great special effects, and the dark mood and atmosphere tie in nicely, giving it that depth. As for the acting, it was fairly decent. Great pressure felt between Norwegians and Americans with the language difference and not knowing who to believe. There are also some visually disturbing scenes in this movie. The gore, while there was enough of it, was not overkill, but it did make me flinch at times. I thought the creature was far out, very realistic, and genuinely creepy, not to mention downright grotesque. I'm glad that this prequel was able to answer a lot of the questions leading up to "The Thing" with Kurt Russell. There are also some nice homages made to Carpenter in this flick too. If you enjoyed the '82 version then this one will not disappoint. Get out to see it now.
