Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

At long last we have the first full length film for the dynamic British claymation duo known fondly as Wallace and Gromit. Previously we have seen the ill-minded master and his keen canine in such unforgettable animated shorts as "The Wrong Trousers", "A Close Shave", and "A Grand Day Out". But entering the new media rhelm of full lenght filmmaking, how does Wallace and Gromit do? Well without much beating around the bush, they do quite famously. It's difficult to write a deep and thoughtful review on the Were-Rabbit when my brain was turned to mush laughing so hard throughout the whole damn thing. The movie is just a ton of fun to watch, the visual gags are spectacularly clever and subtle, the dry British wit is enjoyable as always, and of course the characters are original and quite cute. This time around the duo is in a business to protect the little town's vegetables from nasty little rabbits. However in an experiment gone wrong, Wallace starts to turn into a enormous ravenous bunny rabbit when the moon rises, and a bunny rabbit they catch begins to turn into Wallace, with hilarious consequences involving a high pitched Wallace rabbit calling to Gromit "don't forget the crackers! ". The film features several new characters, including a brilliantly designed love interest for Wallace named Lady Tottington, who always appears to be dressed like some sort of vegetable. Also on tap is the villainous Victor Quatermaine, voiced by Ralph Fiennes, who's toupee on his hairless head makes for some side-splitting gags. The script is quite solid, relying mostly on the tandem to provide most of the humour, advancing the plot at a steady pace, and providing an excellent supporting cast of characters and voice actors. The humour is consistent and never falters or fails to draw a chuckle, while the storyline, while ridiculous, is still kept serious and intact. While I am a huge fan of this movie, however, not everyone will love it like I have. In the theatre I appeared to be the only one slapping my knee, rolling in the aisles, and wetting myself with laughter. Perhaps the irreverent humour was too subtle for some, and the kiddies will definitely miss a lot of the punchlines. But that being said, Wallace and Gromit's latest adventure is the most fun you can have at the movies this year, and is definitely a personal recommendation of mine.
