"A Fish Called Wanda" is a very funny, very British comedy. It’s the kind of picture that makes you feel dumb for not having seen it before but then cheers you up by saying “hey it’s alright, we can watch it with some friends later and have a great time! ”

Four thieves plan a jewellery heist and proceed to screw up. Everything went well except for the part where they get away with the valuables, mostly because there’s no honour among these thieves. With their ringleader George (Tom Georgeson) caught, con artist Wanda (Jamie Lee Curtis), her lover (who is pretending to be her brother) Otto (Kevin Kline) and Ken (Michael Palin), an animal lover with a bad stutter have to figure out a way to deduce where the jewels are in order to get away with them. It boils down to a plan by Wanda to seduce George’s barrister Archie (John Cleese) and get him to get the location of the jewels from George, something easier said than done.

What I like about this movie is the way the cast play off of each other and their characters. Everyone is very distinct, memorable and they all have their own comedic quirks that lend themselves to very funny situations. Most of the comedy comes from these characters interacting with each other and this makes for a lot of good running jokes that play out through the movie in a really satisfying way. You get to know the crooks that are the focus of the movie and not only do you care about what happens to them but you kind of start cheering for them, even though you're not supposed to. The dialogue is really sharp and the writing is tight so you'll get more than a few laughs out of it. It’s a sharp, smart comedy I’m looking forward to seeing again. (On Dvd, March 6, 2013)
