Though one can say this film is about a decade in which sex, porn and drugs were a huge driving force, director J. P. Anderson doesn't make those aspects the motivation of his film. He's a lot deeper than that with specific comments on society, environment and the now long gone trends of that era. Many won't like the trashy aspects of the flick along with some truly unbelievable scenes. None of this bothered me, yet I was not as gung-ho about the feature as some were. Burt Reynolds received his second Oscar Nomination for this film. He lost. Maybe a second viewing of this feature on DVD might alter my opinion of this famous movie.
