This remake of the Arnold classic struggles from the moment Jason Momoa appears on the screen. The opening sequence with the child actor was actually quite well done. Maybe they should have used him for the whole movie. The remainder of the movie is a failure of epic proportions. With a weak plot and shallow character development, there's just no buy in for the viewer. Arnold was never a strong actor, but I believed him in the role of a barbarian far more than Jason Momoa. And while James Earl Jones conveyed a dispassionate and seductively creepy villain, Stephen Lang's character was simply a laughable lunatic that behaved like he just walked out of a G. I. Joe cartoon. Rachel Nichols is probably the most uninteresting female actor ever to grace the screens. There are some appealing action sequences but they can't carry the film. All in all a yawn-fest, and unworthy of the franchise. Long live Arnold.
