Edge of Tomorrow is an inventive and somewhat original blend of SciFi action and the plot of Groundhog Day rolled into one. Cruise's Major Cage dies in battle fighting an alien invasion only to discover that he lives the same day over and over again, allowing him and hero soldier Emily Blunt to plan a winning strategy to reverse what would otherwise be mankind's last stand. The shoot em up battle scenes are what you would expect from a big budget actioneer but it is the Groundhog Day aspect which makes this film truly worthwhile. Much like the classic Bill Murray comedy, Edge continues to find creative and very comical uses for the Live Die Repeat scenario and Cruise sells the winning concept for all its worth. Blunt also kicks some serious ass as the poster girl for the human resistance. Clever, exciting and surprisingly funny, with enough action and narrative originality to make for a thoughtful and very enjoyable film.
