I read the book several years ago and was amazed -- mostly because it was so different from the kind of novels I usually like (and different from ANY other novel I ever read!) and because the author, Jonathan Safran Foer, has written such a strange story in such a strange way that he has restored the meaning of the word "novelty" to the novel. The movie attempted to capture the intricate, bizarre spirit of the book and it mostly succeeded, to my surprise. Of course," The book was better than the movie," but the film adaptation of it was still able to grab the audience by the heart. The story gives one a lot to think about, and I recommend both the book and the movie.
