    Foxcatcher

Audiences will be surprised at Steve Carrell's turn as oddball, richman, wrestling dilettante, John DuPont. Those expecting comedy will be gasping in disbelief at his tour-de-force dramatic performance in this austere, stark but impossible-to-look-turn-away-from effort. Channing Chatum (who won an acting award at Cannes)is marvelous as the tragic figure in this scenario as is Mark Ruffalo as his ill-fated brother. Although the facts of the case are a matter of public record, the ending still packs a walloping body blow. One of the year's best films.
