Fury's the 20th century version of the 2000 year old war story. The 300 scaled down set in 1945! Yes, it has cliche' aspects, romanticized and starkened. We should recall those "cliche's" traction in consciousness is extremely hard won. Brad Pitt can act, and he's as much an "everybody knows one" as an alpha screen idol. The ensemble cast do yeoman work. The language of dialogue is quite era accurate, so is the behavior. Each character typifies many. Shia LaBeouf toes the line here, to his credit. Logan Lerman, a great vehicular effort. I found the portrayal of German women, especially empathetic. If you had to explain what a war movie is, to someone who had no comprehension (lucky them), this is what you'd describe. Pretty good, and likely durable.
