A distressingly horrible adaptation of the late 60's mega musical of the same name. One of Milos Foreman's few disasters. There is nothing likable about the film which took Broadway by storm. Foreman and producers took too long to bring this period piece to the screen. By 1979 or so when the film was released it had no relevance at all as the Viet Nam War was finally over and no one seemed to want to look back at that terrible period. John Savage tries his best in the lead but gets nowhere as the film had certain alterations, none of the good kind. I thoroughly hated this feature and could barely stand watching it to the end. Well, I almost made it to the end! A definite BUST!
