What an eye-opener... Kristen Wiig in her first VERY dramatic role, a very restrained performance of a seasoned dramatic actress. It's hard to picture Kristen as this extremely shy, very shabby nurse/housekeeper with no life of her own. The film was subtle which I loved yet it made a big impact. HATESHIP LOVESHIP also stars Guy Pierce whom I've never seen give a bad performance, a now aged but wonderful NICK NOLTE and Haile Steinfeld who redeems herself as the miscast Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. It was good to see Christine Lahti on the big screen after a long absence. Johanna, the character Wiig plays will pretty well shock you as she goes after what she wants after a horrible prank has been played on her. Final word: amazing to see the usually hilarious and glamorous Kristen in this dowdy, frumpy role. Casting against type has proved the right thing for many actors in the past. If one can do comedy, apparently the hardest work to do, drama should come as a more facile thing to do.
