Throughout its 20 year history, one thing Pixar studios has excelled at is perfecting the art of cross-generational appeal in their films. They don't make kids movies, they make movies for everyone, including kids. Inside Out is yet another example of the studio succeeding at making an appealing film for both kids an adults, as it is a fantastic film for all ages. While the trailers have indeed showcased the film's unique premise, and have delivered some laughs along with them, the marketing for Inside Out has somewhat failed to show just how clever the movie actually is. On top of being a fun, colourful animated movie for kids, Inside Out has many deeper meanings and clever wit that will go over many kids' heads, but will be greatly appreciated by teens and adults. I found myself laughing many times at how realistically the film portrays events from one's life, and how it ties these common everyday happenings so intelligently into the story. While it doesn't reach the dizzying heights of the level of raw emotion of past animated films such as Up, Inside Out packs a punch in its ability to not just make you laugh, but also tear up (? ) I went into this movie knowing nothing about the plot other than what the trailers showed, and I suggest you do the same. Inside Out is not just the best kid-friendly film playing in theaters right now, but it is so far the best movie of 2015.
