I believed the hype, so many good reviews but I got ripped off again! My god, have we all lost our collective minds?! This movie is bad, really bad. Boring, confusing, a meaningless mass of illogical, muddled dialogue from McConaughey and others. The HAL 9000 tech helper is a machine called TARS. It’s a walking talking oversized Kit-Kat. Even more bizarre is the Matt Damon surprise cameo. He’s out of place but briefly creates the only real drama in the story. A story that is attempting to tackle such a haughty premise about how humanity might someday migrate to distance planets doesn’t need “A” list actors to pull this off. The premise and effects are the stars. Could you imagine 2001: A Space Odyssey with Rock Hudson? The story stumbles along painfully. Every so often McConaughey reminds us the end of the world is coming if they don’t succeed. So, what is happening on the earth? Not much really, dust storms. And why do they need to find alternate worlds to save the Earth? Not sure really, probably the answer was on the blackboard with those equations they kept brooding over. Try as I might, I can’t squeeze out more than 2 stars. Pretty good effects and the ice planet stuff was interesting.
