Lootera

This film requires patience and attention. The first half is leisurely paced and filled with a few too many silences for my liking. But that's compensated by great performances from the two leads and the ambience of the 1950s. The second half though had my rapt attention as the film picks up pace for a bit and then traps our two protagonists together to sort out their unhappiness. What shocked and impressed me the most was the way the camera just lingers on images in the movie. I kind of felt I was on vacation. Plus, the use of the majority of the songs in the very dramatic second half was brave and very unusual. The film's director has the guts to pull it off, and it works really really well. Honestly, I thought Udaan was a fluke, but Vikramaditya Motwane proved me wrong. Here's a director really worth keeping an eye on. And Sonakshi Sinha can seriously act. Now that's a shocker.
