After seeing the trailer for this movie, which caught me by surprise and blew me away, I instantly decided that I was going to see this movie. The premise, while scientifically proven false, would make for great sci-fi and the action looked really good. After seeing the movie, I must admit that I am a little disappointed. The film however, entertained me enough that I can still give it a positive review. Lucy starts very strong, with a quick set-up, brisk pace, and some tense moments. The acting is good across the board, and no performance took me out of the film by being less than believable. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the first act of the movie. However, as the movie goes on, it becomes increasingly silly, and as part of the audience, I had to suspend my movie-belief more and more in order to follow and enjoy the movie. That is not saying that I was not entertained. The action was still very exciting, the special effects near the end of the movie were phenomenal, and the film tries to cover some deep scientifically metaphorical ground. Morgan Freeman provides most of the "science" in the movie, and while I know that most of what he is saying has been proven false, these theories are still very interesting. Towards the end, Lucy (the movie, not the character) becomes lost in its own science, and gets stuck trying to explain everything to us, instead of visually showing us. The ending will leave many people scratching their heads but it does leave room for discussion after the credits role. Despite its problems with character development, our ability to believe in the premise (just suspend that), and its own science, Lucy does entertain. The action is intense, the pacing is fast, and the movie doesn't drag, and for that, I would recommend a viewing if found on Netflix or cable TV.
