James Baldwin the famous American writer of colour had to retreat to Paris to find his voice in the literary arts as he was getting nowhere in America. The man was poor, black and gay... three big strikes against him. It is the time of the Vietnam War and Baldwin has a big dilemma on his hand as a documentary is being filmed on aspects of his life when a few black draft dodgers come upon the scene. For Baldwin it's a sensitive issue defending African Americans yet so understanding of the tradition and culture of everything he despises!
