Fine film, particularly well written. Directed by Stephen Frears, a master. Enriched with a cast, without exception, exemplary in their roles. Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, should get Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Dame Judi, in one flicker of eye movement, can sell the gravity of a scene, yet not steal it. Coogan to very great credit, delivers an equally polished portrayal. The film address' faith as psychosis, and unquestioned dictum, selling both notions empathetically. That's a trick and a half. One of those compact, but essential projects like "Local Hero", or "The Wind that Shakes the Barley". I think it'll be thought of as important 30 years, and more, from now. One of Judi Dench's very best, which is saying something.
