R.I.P.D.

I really wanted to like this movie because there's a lot of good stuff in it being done by people I like. However the MIB-like formula doesn't quite work and the attempts at zaniness never quite take off. The effects are really good; Ryan Reynolds and Mary Louise Parker are clever and droll, and Jeff Bridges plays a great character. I didn't know that Kevin Bacon was in this movie, but I was quite pleased that he showed up... he was quite effective in his role. Unfortunately the movie as a whole added up to less than the sum of its parts. One plus note... the 3D effects were pretty good, and the visuals never seemed too dark. For what it's worth...
