Riddick returns with a formulaic fan base pleaser modeled closely after Pitch Black. Not bad considering the franchise stalled out for a decade but clearly it suffers from a significantly reduced budget. The much simpler storyline is key and the CGI is mostly well done, with the exception of a few glaring moments. Still, there's nothing new here, and that's what separates it from the original sleeper hit. At best we can hope for modest success in a proportion large enough to reignite the series and possibly give us another installment in a few years. At worst, this film provides and ending of sorts to the Riddick saga.
