Rush is a very good film, about a subject incredibly difficult to convey. Ron Howard also has to deal with portrayal of 2 men who were icons, in memory for many. Re-create their chemistry and import to a whole uninitiated audience too. I've followed F1 all my life, and know team staff who were involved in it during the 70's. People in proximity to Hunt and Lauda then. Daniel Bruhl's performance is very authentic, Oscar worthy. Hemsworh is good as James Hunt, but not as spot on. The type more than the man, perhaps. Bruhl also followed F1, and Hemsworth's has not. The whole casting is very appropriate, but the portrayal of Marlene Lauda is exceptional too. Given that making "Rush" authentic to the letter, would have cost $ 350 million, be 4 hours long and been a logistical nightmare, Ron Howard has done awfully well. Found the story, realized the emotions, made the racing scenes viable, and sold the characters. There is not too much CG either, kudos. To those who mention "the noise", first of all it's "sound" folks. Grand Prix racing is colourful, high velocity, visceral and loud. For fans it's music, and many were worried that aspect would be dummied down, or sound tracked over. Thankfully it wasn't. Nine of ten, given the rest of the summers less than target hitting material, perhaps. Rush is a good movie, but it's a film too!!
