    Sicario

One of the best action movies to date that I have seen. Denis Villeneuve (‘INCENDIES’ 2010 ‘PRISONERS’ 2013 ‘ENEMY’ rocks with ‘SICARIO’.

Emily Blunt has moved up as an actress from the romantic ‘MY SUMMER OF LOVE’ 2004 to ‘EDGE OF TOMORROW’ 2014 to ‘SICARIO’ 2015. Josh Brolin ascends from ‘NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN’ 2007 to this action flick. And Benicio Del Toro keeps moving up from 21 GRAMS 2003 ‘TRAFFIC’ 2000 (Oscar.)

Sicario never lets up in its tough commitment to attack the cartels with everything it got to a clear path of personal Justice and the search for a balance in the scale of crime. When a Hydra has many heads, cutting them almost all off, leaving just one to control and focus on the task at hand towards a personal goal to get pay back from irrational criminal actions. The sudden almost purist and naïve reactions of one of the new members, Kate, opens up a door through Matt to facilitates the understanding of that commitment (Alejandro), because of the many explanations given to Kate to illuminate her being in the darkness of it all.

After a long search and many stunning battles on the streets of Juarez with a backdrop of beautiful landscapes and an up close look at Mexican’s country people you get a sense of being there not as an observer but a participant. The viewer willingly or not gets involved in the plot guided by the secure hand of Denis Villeneuve. Two races confront each other demons and feeble humanities trapped by an addiction nobody seems to control.

There are cleansing moments when the evil done by one gets to feel the same desperation that his victim felt in the past. There is catharsis in play here that affects some of the team and a resignation that playing it by the book does not work. You have to be crooked and twisted to adjust to cunning enemy.

After all 'All war is based on deception...' Common sense has no role here, you have to become desperate and insane to achieve your goal.
