Song of Bernadette

Absolutely outstanding historically based film of the young French girl, Bernadette who would become a very prestigious nun and canonized a saint by the Catholic Church. Henry King directs one of his most beloved and famous films, an Oscar Nominee for Best Picture in 1943. King himself was Nominated for Best Director and in her first lead role Jennifer Jones took home the Oscar as Best Actress in a tremendous, flawless 'tour de force' performance as the innocent, naive girl from small town France. Charles Bickford as the town priest and Dame Gladys Cooper as Bernadette's mother give outstanding performances with both receiving Oscar Nominations. Vincent Price as a skeptic on the entire Blessed Mother appearances gives one of his best film performances. Alfred Newman won the Oscar for the scoring of a dramatic film, well deserved as the music is so integral to the religious nature of this feature. Jennifer Jones is so convincing as a young girl and then a worn out, ill 24 year old nun who was soon to meet her God! It's hard to grasp the emotional intensity of her role in one of the best religious films ever made. AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE FLAWLESS FILM.
