Although comedy can be the hardest genre to judge effectively, it's pretty hard to ignore Spy as one of the funnier films in recent memory. Melissa McCarthy's genuineness pays huge dividends here as a doormat CIA agent who gets her first out of office assignment and must contend with all the expected hijinks that ensue. Jason Statham as a thick and rival spy is also a scream, in a hilarious send up of his usual tough guy persona. However it is Peter Serafinowicz as a pervy Italian agent named Aldo who easily steals the film. In fact, there are no slackers in the supporting cast, with literally everyone having a moment at some point or another. It does go on a little too long for a spoof, but rarely does a minute go by without a funny one liner, or a comically violent fight scene to keep the film's momentum steady. Much like McCarthy and director Paul Feig's last collaboration The Heat, a foul-mouthed, violent and simply uproarious film.
