I was slightly hesitant to see The Fault In Our Stars. Though it has been receiving quite good reviews, I was never in the mood for heart-wrenchingly sad films. Well, this movie was exactly that. However, what I didn't expect was how well executed everything was and how little cheesiness there ended up being! The story follows Hazel, a cancer victim who falls deeply in love with Augustus, another cancer victim. The acting in this movie is utterly amazing. Shailene Woodley gave an Oscar worthy performance as Hazel. The rest of the cast did a fantastic job as well. The pacing was actually very good and the plot was beautiful. The music was very well placed and the cinematography was quite beautiful at times. The real stand out here though was definitely the direction. This movie was directed to perfection, with barely any cheesy moments (which I thought it would have lots of) The wonderful writing also adds to this. This isn't a perfect movie, though. Even though I said they were very little cheesy moments, there were some that really dragged the movie down. Some lines were also incredibly weirdly sad and quite cheesy. Overall, The Fault in Our Stars it is an extremely sad yet very beautiful movie that actually baffled my expectations. If you see it, which you should, bring a box of tissues. RATING: 8.75/5.
