Yes you do need to say more-some vague comments regarding the content and length are not helpful. Especially in light of the overwhelming number of positive reviews garnered by this film. Try reading the book and you will wonder how this could be done in only three parts and do it justice.
The Hobbit was a classic and it has always been considered a better read than the LOTR books. The LOTR movies were well made and every movie held your attention. I am a huge fan! This movie is a disappointment because it gives you the overwhelming feeling of having seen it all before. Technology cannot make up for lack of editing. As someone who saw the LOTR movies more than once, I cannot imagine going to this movie again. Hope that suffices!
I would never consider The Hobbit a better read than the LOTR trilogy. In fact, just the opposite. The Hobbit was a childrens book, the LOTR books were written for adults. The Hobbit is being made into three movies to flesh out the storyline or else it would not work at all on the big screen.
