My husband and I were influenced by all the hype and after seeing the movie, we were asking each other... what was the big deal? Yawwwn! Sorry, but we can't elevate this film to the ranks of Lord of the Rings or Avatar as some people are doing. There is a deeper message in the movie that was obvious regarding opulence and oppression, but to see kids killing kids as a form of entertainment to watch in a theater, well... it's a bit morbid. Are we getting to a serious level of desensitization to murder and death that we are reverting to primitive and uncivilized attitudes about public killings as they used to do in Roman days or Tower of London public beheadings? At least this movie had some kindness and nurturing in it among the characters. That made up for some of the darker elements.
