The Maze Runner is of course derivative of the youth franchisers, Hunger Games and Divergent, and remains desperately trying to find a source for continuity. Post apoc sci-fi using teens as the mice in a maze - who will make it thru and how that will help society as a whole. This simple premise remains frustratingly obscure in this film, both during and even in wrap up. The 'tests' produce, clearly, random results and have minimal to do with skill & intellect. The mechanical spiders, oddly called, Grievers, select victims at random, even as they successfully escape. Individual ability remains highly unconvincing without subplot levels that rationalize opposing interests. (A particular eye roller was the appearance of the 'Glade' antagonist after final escape - all but absolutely irrational.) Final sense of the film, uninteresting, forgettable fare.
