A very interesting and worthwhile film: highly recommended. The essence of the story is, having been subjected to unspeakable brutality and torture, what do you do when given the opportunity to confront your tormentors? Do you continue the cycle of violence, or do you --? Along the way, the film also vividly portrays the agonies of what we now call post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) Colin Firth puts in an awesome performance as Eric Lomax, reminiscent of his role as George VI in "The King's Speech". And Nicole Kidman -- I have not previously been a fan of Nicole Kidman, finding her performances generally wooden and superficial, but here she is awesome as the newly-married Patti Lomax helping her husband to confront his demons. And, lastly but certainly not least, Kitamoto Takato puts in an awesome performance as the former Japanese POW camp guard who is also confronting his own demons. A wonderful, albeit disturbing, film: go and see it.
