The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

That film is an invigorating hymn to life itself, and to 'restarting' life -- in a much more fulfilled manner -- at any age, especially after 'a certain age'.

Globally, it's a sort of extension of the first 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' -- with quite a few new 'anecdotes' -- short yet satisfying. And a few new interesting guests.

But you don't need to have seen the first entry to understand or fully enjoy that second quite tasty 'serving' : the inventive script and direction -- and, of course, the masterful acting of one and all -- cleverly hint at what occurred four years ago.

I found slightly too short the energetic and very inviting dance number which comes at almost the end -- in which most of cast partakes (except Dame Maggie Smith), she who ends up by having one of the most central parts, she and also Dev Patel – as dynamic and sincere as ever.

You would never guess what happens to Dame Smith during that absence : how ‘shocking’ but delightful (as far as it can only be presumed) Many events -- 'intimate’ or not -- are hinted at with an admirable subtlety.

And what can I say about the breath-taking panoramic view of the surrounding area of Madras -- with its sky-touching mountains…... ?

Even if some aspects of the plot (i. e. the way in which some things end up by falling right into place) may seem -- on second thought or closer scrutiny -- a bit contrived…... over all, this is a FEEL-GOOD movie which is very enjoyable indeed.

Regardless of true chronological age, I recommend it to all those who remained ‘young at heart’. Cynics may not agree with me.
