I'm glad I saw this movie, it's a hard one to watch but I appreciate the fact that it is based on the true story of a real-life hero. I expect that the producers attempted to make it as authentic as they could based on Louie's memoirs and for me that scores points. Personally I would have preferred that his very obvious leadership skills, based on the fighter plane and lifeboat sequences be more abundantly portrayed in the last part of the film instead of all the images of the pain, suffering and despair, who certainly had their place but those soldiers weren't clueless, they had guts and managed to get outside information in that god-forsaken internment camp. I would have wished that to be played up more. But maybe what was shown of Louie once in the POW camp, is what took all the place. Hard to say having not read his memoirs. But poignant all in all, if you decide to go see it I know you won't walk away indifferent but if you're even slightly faint of heart, you'd best not go alone.
