VENUS was a tremendous hit for Peter O'Toole in 2006 for which he was Oscar Nominated for the 8th time. Having lost the Oscar in every nomination The Academy gave him A Special Oscar for Lifetime Achievement of absolutely great roles. It truly is a blight on the Academy that this highly talented, prolific actor, much like Richard Burton, with 7 nominations, never took home the Prize. Imagine! He even lost for LAURENCE OF ARABIA! In Venus he astounds again as an old timer in show business forced to take bit roles. It would have been positively delicious had he won for his performance in 2006 having just won the Lifetime Achievement Award the year before. That would have been vindication of the first order.
