This film has a big cult following due to in large part its quirkiness. I give the movie points for its originality, Gene Wilder’s eccentric performance, the interesting chocolate factory, the golden ticket concept, and of course the Oompa-Loompas. However, there are many flaws in this movie. I found the acting weak, the dialogue simplistic, and the character development poor. As a viewer, you don’t feel a connection to the characters in the story. I also found the musical scores offbeat. The visual and sound effects could have also been better – even for the 1971. Overall, this film had so much more potential…
