    25th Hour

Spike Lee called his film and it appeared in the credits as a Spike Lee Joint. I stupidly didn't understand the labeling until partly through the film. This definitive, gritty crime drama coasted along for much too long before we get to the last 20 minutes or so. Then we are left uplifted as it were just to see the rug pulled from under us. At times Ed Norton just doesn't come across as the bad-ass he's supposed to be which was a problem. Barry Pepper and the amazing Brian Cox ( Monty's father, the Ed Norton character ) give the most solid performances. Spike Lee should have cut about a half hour from the 2:15 minute film as it was meandering for a good deal of the time. A tightened version would have made for a much better film.
