    A Summer Place

Apparently no movie was bigger or more popular back in 1959 than A SUMMER PLACE starring TROY DONAHUE, in his first lead role and 17 year old Sandra Dee, two young teens trying to cope with the conflicting emotions of young love. The adult stars, their parents are also romantically at odds in this sensation of a romantic melodrama. Max Steiner who wrote most of the great scores at Warner Brothers in the 1940's wrote a perfect score for this film of mass appeal producing one of the greatest hits of 1959, Theme from a Summer Place. This sort of film is no longer made because studios mistakenly presume the human struggles of mortals in the face of love and other emotions are all a thing of the past, that in the 21st century we seem to either know it all or have an answer for everything. They couldn't be more WRONG. We have become an emotionless, technological society too focused on everything but what truly counts. Films like A Summer Place would be a breath of fresh air in this cinematic climate of sci-fi films, horror thrillers, space extravaganzas and all the other junk that is produced and reproduced with a just a minor tweak or two to label it original. It was a wholesome experience to see what we ourselves deal with in life in a frank and honest way... not that we will ever again witness this type of honest, adult film both about young love and more mature, romantic relationships. If someone came up with the right formula for such a film it would be a sensation as A Summer Place was way back in 1959. I believe people are starving for a human relationship story of authentic realism, something sadly missing in the film world of today or should I say in the world at large in 2015. With every bit of technology at our fingertips, we have sadly forgotten life's true dilemmas and in the process have become less human.
