I was looking forward to this movie with all the positive ratings on this site, awards and general hype that is was “awesome”. The acting was very good. The plot is based on a true story. Throughout the movie, I found I was becoming increasingly angry at the main character. Why are you putting your country ahead of your family? What kind of brainwashing makes a person put themselves in harms way over and over again when they have a responsibility at home? Terrorists are brainwashed to the point where they will blow themselves and their children up for their cause, and we find this to be crazy. The “American” way may not be as extreme, but I’m not sure how different we are from their mindset after watching this movie.
As the movie progressed, I stopped being angry at the character Chris Kyle and started to wonder what is wrong with the armed forces/government to allow men and women to do tour after tour when clearly they are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is cruel to the individual and to their families.
At the end, the people I went to the movie with looked at each other and thought “meh, another war movie”. Great acting, moves along well, and for me it was obviously thought provoking. Worth seeing but go on cheap night or wait for the DVD.
