    Anna

One can only speak in generalities about the thriller ANNA as the slightest giveaway will ruin the plot for anyone planning to see it; This is a film which should be seen with a fresh mind as there is a great deal to absorb plus keeping tabs on all the film keeps throwing at the viewer to the very end. A double viewing is highly recommended!

ANNA, or MINDSCAPE as it is known in the U. K. is a psychological thriller with a dash of the horror, a good deal of suspense, all sorts of twists and surprises and two quite decent character studies that all add up to a surprisingly good film, better than most thrillers on the market. A detective with the ability to enter the memories of others will take on a "simple" case of a 16 year old girl. The premise sounds pretty awesome but entering the minds of others to experience their subconscious memories isn't anything new. The two main characters of the film, the detective (Mark Strong) and the teenage girl (Taissa Farmiga, younger sister of Vera) give outstandingly good performances. Both Mark and Taissa have a magnetic screen presence. They both give cool, calm, controlled performances which, to my mind, is the saving grace of the film. From the super suspenseful opening of "Anna" director Jorge Dorado keeps the thrills and suspense coming but oncoming to the point that the plot gets bogged down and quite convoluted. There are too many twists and surprises so to confuse the viewer more than a bit! The film poses another major problem, however. After viewing the entirety of the film one realizes that there are just too many loose ends in the film, some that shockingly don't make sense, others that just don't give us the answers we want. So from an apparently great thriller we end up with a film that could have been much better had the writers taken more care with the plot. ANNA presumes a bit too much thus falling short of "great".
