ANNIE - 1982 Truly one of the worst musicals ever made even with the likes of Albert Finney, Carol Burnett and Bernadette Peters. John Huston who was already ill was trying his hand at a musical for the first time, the consequences are disastrous and unbearable, everything overblown to absurdity and the characters, especially Miss Burnett's over-played to the point of becoming a stock figure of fun. They turned a beloved Broadway play into a travesty. Why would a great director like John Huston end his career with a musical when he knew nothing about music or Broadway? A total flop! Who are the idiot producers who gave him the job of directing one of the biggest musicals Broadway had seen to that point? Get a musical/Broadway director. That would have been the only wise thing to do.
