Normally, I have apprehension over anticipation, for the Marvel adaptations. Didn't read comic books much, although the artwork impressed.
Truly, although I've seen Paul Rudd in films, I never thought his contribution above competent role play. Seemed a decent fellow, but if I was casting, doubt I'd think of him.
Ant-Man has a quirky average title too, but don't be lulled by that.
This is a good movie, by any standard.
Certainly, far and away, the best Marvel project to date. I'll credit its restraint, while utilizing some of the most creative CG application yet, on film.
The pacing is fine, the story and character realization on par with some notable, and enduring classics. Finally despite a derivative origin, Ant-Man is highly original.
The acting is A1, and while several cast members have enviable careers, this seems an ensemble piece.
Rudd, who wears many hats in the effort is quite fine. Evangeline Lilly, fully stylizes her role into a 1940's leading lady, really gelling the part. Michael Douglas gets kudos for playing within the role, but delivering every nuance of it. Bobby Cannavale again a solid effort.
Cory Stoll playing really ripe as the megalomanic protege'.
Viewed from the position of no prior knowledge of this character, or story, Ant-Man engaged and fully entertained.
Top drawer, if not life changing, so merits an 8.
