I was pretty excited to see Big Hero 6. From the moment I heard that Disney was teaming up with Marvel for an animated superhero flick, I was on board. Well, I'm very happy to say that Big Hero 6 doesn't disappoint and is one of the best animated films this year! The story follows Hiro, a genius 14 year old who teams up with an adorable robot and a group of students to take down a supervillain. The story is nothing new, but is executed in a very fun and fast-paced fashion. One of the major faults of Big Hero 6 is just how predictable it is. I predicted the identity of the villain and the ending of the film from the start. Yes, I understand that it's a movie meant for families, but I would have at least liked more surprises. The voice-acting is pretty great. All of the actors give fun performances and all work very well. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, proving to be one of the most visually beautiful films of the year. The way that San Fransokyo was designed was very clever and interesting. The musical score is amazing and the whole atmosphere is very fun. The best part of Big Hero 6 are the loveable characters. Hiro is a likeable kid and the team of students he teams up with, though stereotypical, are awesome. The best part, though, is Baymax the robot. He is one of the most loveable characters I've ever seen put to screen. He's not only hilarious, but adorable. This movie is actually very funny and has some amazing jokes. The dramatic elements are well executed too. The pace is very fast and makes its short runtime feel even shorter. The animated short before the movie called Feast was amazing and will probably win Best Animated Short at the Oscars. There are also a ton of references to Marvel properties, including a special cameo! :D Overall, Big Hero 6 is a fun, beautifully animated, predictable and hilarious adventure for the whole family! See it! RATING: 8.5/10.
