Javier Bardem may well have joined the ranks of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino with this performance. The director, fond of close-up shots, gave Bardem many opportunities to display his talents visually. The film itself was a problem for me. With so much bad luck throughout for almost all the characters (except the cops)and a message based on selfishness, Bardem's character seemed to be a contradiction. Will require at least one more viewing.
