    Black Swan

Black Swan is a good film, but there are some variables to add on this very, very popular film of 2010. While exploring what seems to be a cut throat world of ballet, I buy this with some reservation, reviewing both opera and ballet besides my teaching at U of T. The film becomes more than somewhat controversial with what seems a world of monsters and the depravity of sex. I don't buy it to the degree portrayed in the story. Mila Kunis should have been recognized as a nominee as Best Supporting Actress. It was good to see a rather transformed Winona Ryder as an almost ex ballet star.

Without the Oscar Winning performance of Natalie Portman as the titular character, so to speak, this film would not have gone as far as it did. Despite some objections I've already stated director Aronofsky does capture the intrigue of behind the scenes action and the perfoming aspects of the film were filmed quite beautifully. Yet, I don't think this is a film that deserved as much praise as it received.
