Bob Rafelson who gave us the iconic "Five Easy Pieces" is in thriller mode with this 1987 film which I believe is a remake of a dramatic film made by Ginger Rogers in the 1940's once her partnership with Fred Astaire had come to an end. I enjoyed the film on a very superficial level as I basically had the entire plot in mind from the original film of 40 years earlier. Debra Winger is in good form, however. It's too bad she didn't get along very well with many actors or film directors and producers. It cut her career significantly as many didn't want to work with her. I do believe she was not an easy person with whom one could get along! Her marriage to actor Timothy Hutton was almost over before it even began! Shirley MacLaine has talked about their very difficult relationship while filming TERMS OF ENDEARMENT! Both were fabulous in the film and both received Oscar Nominations as Best Actress with Shirley triumphant on this her fifth nomination! By the way, there is a documentary called: "Whatever Happened to Debra Winger? "... a doc that concentrates not only on Winger but other female actors who fell by the wayside pretty quickly into their careers?
