Born on the Fourth of July

This true story of a Viet Nam War Veteran Ron Kovic has got to be one of the top CRUISE movies of all time made in the earlier part of his career. Cruise's films of this period see him as a trail blazing actor who was touted as the next Paul Newman or truly great star. He certainly went on to be a great star, but not in the calibre of movies considered truly great! Tom is intense and sincere in this Oliver Stone film for which he was a VERY SERIOUS CONTENDER as BEST ACTOR of 1989. He lost the Oscar to Daniel Day-Lewis in 1989, a very great actor who now has (3) THREE Oscars to Tom Cruise's "0". The difference between the two is that Day-Lewis stars only in serious, significant films while Tom chose another path of "popular" movies that will never place him in the pantheon of great, masterful actors!
