The late Robin Williams provides a master class in acting as Nolan, the long suffering bank officer in a marriage of convenience. The sadness of his 50 years of denial of his true self is reflected in his eyes and in the lines and wrinkles of his somewhat puffy face. Williams's countenance reflects the exhaustion that would have developed as a result of the inner turmoil resulting from the continual suppression of his true nature. But, Nolan has developed into a kind and gentle man ("I don't want to hurt anybody") I won't reveal details of the story line but suffice to say there are wonderful supporting performances from Kathy Baker as his quiet wife who may or may not have suspected Nolan's true orientation and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) as his professor best friend who states (and I paraphrase) "It's never too late to begin again and find happiness or maybe this is all just bs." The cinematography reveals the rough areas of Nashville to be almost beautiful and the non-intrusive soundtrack sets the right atmosphere for the entire movie. The ending is perplexing but emotionally satisfying. It almost goes without saying that it is sad to observe that this will be last performance that we will see from a great and gifted artist.
