    Bridget Jones's Baby

Haven't seen a film in weeks. I'd moved to the left coast in the meantime, and found no time, but stress enough.

Well, time to get light relief availed, the the reliable Bridget Jones seemed appropriate.

Found out the theatre didn't validate parking until too committed, ah Vancouver land of entitlement, but I digress.

So it needed to be uplifting.

It was too. Pretty nice place to be for its two hours.

There were moments of flair hilarity, and that's rare. Low brow, but high brow and empathetic as well.

Several light years away from the Seth Rogan/Ben Stiller syndrome, devouring Hollywood.

Renee' Zelweger winsome, appealing and glowing appropriately. She a fine actor, her evolution of Bridget is finely nuanced and affectionate.

Patrick Dempsey's inclusion works well, his character a bit of a lothario if very well wrapped and intended.

Hard to fault Colin Firth for much, Darcy's back and holding up all that's decent England once more.

The plot twist is nothing new, but this is well written, and acted. It does, just, lag a little in the 3rd quarter, but resolves OK.

The surrounding cast are very good. I'll give a nod to Kate's O'Flynn's threatening, Midlands terminator Alice for applying some darker nodes.

Her character's clone may have decided parking validation policy, at the theatre I attended, and for the last time.

It's not new ground anymore, but joyful, well done, reliable to its audience and often really, genuinely funny. That's a solid 8.
