    C.O.G.

This is the first adaptation of a David Sedaris novel. It stars Jonathan Groff whom I've never seen on film before. He's a natural born actor, a very good one at that in this sort of coming of age story. I expected it to be pretty hilarious but what I got was "a slice of life", a clever + realistic film with some heartfelt moments. I don't think I laughed at all but for whatever reason I enjoyed this indie a lot. The 90 minutes just flew by, pretty surprised the way it all ended. It also stars Denis O'Hare, Dean Stockwell and Corey Stoll. I suspected there eventually would be a gayish overtone as Curly (Stoll) comes on to David (Groff) who runs for his life. I suppose the scene was supposed to be funny but it felt too sincere or seemed all too important to Curly. The awkward situation just put a slight grin on my face. C.O.G. is an easy flowing film about a college guy just wanting to get away from it all for awhile. It seems the dude learns pretty quickly that life is not a bed of roses. By the way I couldn't figure out what C.O.G. meant. If you know, you're smarter than me. EVENTUALLY, it's thrown in your face and you wind up saying: "Oh yeh!" C.O.G. = Child of God.
