Canopy (Fresh air in Film making, originality and beauty in a dramatic setting) by director Aaron Wilson Australian born, which movie took 7 year in the making starring Jim (Khan Chittenden), is one hell of a movie, with two central characters (One is a An Australian fighter pilot shot down in combat in the Singapore jungle and Seng (Taiwanese actor Mo Tzu-Yi), a Chinese freedom fighter on the run, amid a Japanese army scouring around searching for prey), all the action or lack thereof amid a gorgeous Jungle who meet for unforeseen circumstances shows in a cinematic tour de force the struggle with the jungle, the Japanese army and nature, the whole movie in which both protagonist speak different language communicating in a silent way, through only an improvised sign language. They soon become like inseparable brothers against a common enemy Set in Wartime, 1942. Singapore. Their communication says it all, it's a soul to soul fragile link, being the most important because is mute so body language says it all so nobody can hear them. This movie exudes humanity and the being to being connection is as solid as it is relevant. There is a fear and sweat, angst and desperation, both wanting to go back home in one piece. These brotherhood out of the blues becomes very strong and effective as they do team work. It is a jewel of a cinematic experience were the close ups bring upon us the internal bleeding of these two lost souls and their strong emphatic communication. Those faces, those expressions, sweat running down like rain become one when the rain comes, tears of vulnerability, looks of hope and the threat to lose it all in an instant.
What will happen to them? We wish them well.
A side note this film is incomparable with the other running for an Oscar using peoples illnesses as a starting point bring some shame to the whole Hollywood landscape, it is like:
